One of my absolute favorite Christian music artists is Steven Curtis Chapman. Several years back he had a popular song entitled, “All About Love”. The lyrics are as simple as the command God has given us to live. What do we do, well we over complicate it. Instead of loving our fellow man and serving freely as Jesus showed us through His example. We take the reigns in our own hands and pick and choose who is worthy of respect. Because when we show respect that is an act of love. It’s taken me my entire life to try to understand it and just when I think I’m doing a pretty good job at it, He seems to peel and expose another area in my life that I’m once again, over complicating and not freely loving. It’s humbling but I’m so grateful for the grace that God gives and this new day to live in love now. We can’t change anyone’s heart except our own, and we can’t change our own heart without surrendering control and allowing Him to make that change. It’s a lifelong process.
With all that being said, living in love isn’t about being a doormat. Being passive and allowing someone or something to take advantage or betray or abuse, is not what it means to live in love. Living in love is anything but passive. It’s about doing and serving. It’s about a life other centered and in my faith that means Christ centered. It’s about stepping out each morning living a life of intent of purpose.
