A little over two years ago, Matthew and I made the commitment to follow the path where God was leading and open a small bake shop. Fluffing Feathers has been up and running at our, 9 South Main Street Manchester, location for a little over a year and a half. We have had so much to learn and are still learning everyday. Some blunders have left us with eggs on our face. Other times we have brought joy through our bakes which in turn gives us joy. We have left the bakery in the wee hours of the morning only to turn right around and go back to open for the day. I personally have never in my life, felt more beat up physically and sleep deprived. This is our most challenging adventure yet ! By the way I love it !!
We are having a blast at the bake shop. Because we love what we are doing and for the most part, people are loving what we are doing as well. We never expected such a response. Around this time last year, Amy came on board full time at Fluffing Feathers and she has been such a blessing. She can bake and decorate like a pro and on top of that she is a wonderful human being. She loves the people that patron our shop like I do and we both get such pleasure in having them enjoy what we bake. She rises to the challenges and never complains when I have taken on too much. She is my assistant and my right hand. It’s a good thing, because I am left handed. We make quite a team.
I’ve been extremely proud of what we have been able to crank out of our little kitchen in Manchester. We make everything from scratch using quality ingredients and we never skimp. Even in this time of inflation we use real vanilla and other extracts, full fat creams, butter and fresh eggs. I make the Croissants, Pretzels, breads and fillings by hand. The cakes and cookies are all freshly made from scratch and never ever would we use a mix or purchase something frozen to pawn off as a fresh baked good. That being said, we have out grown our tiny kitchen. As Matthew and I prayed and looked into how to remedy our need for a larger kitchen, a sweet little bakery went on the market. Yes, we will be the proud new owners of Vanilla Bean at 104 Main Street Phelps New York.
No, the Manchester location is not closing. Manchester is home and we love it. We fell in love with Vanilla Bean and have chosen to follow the open door that God has paved for us. Our goal is to keep Vanilla Bean thriving for the Phelps community and also be able to crank out much of the baking there for both of our locations.
As people of faith, Matthew and I try to recognize where God is leading us. Most of the time I need a huge sign and doors have to be thrown open before I “get it”. Once that door is open I put my entire heart into it. I am personally so excited for this next chapter in our baking adventure. I just know it is going to be SWEET !!
We will keep you up to date as to when we will be ready to reopen Fluffing Feathers at Vanilla Bean and some new surprises for our Manchester location.
